Fertility Vitamins and Prenatal Vitamins

Many women are either confused about what to look for in fertility vitamins or they don't see the need to take vitamins at all. Let me take some time to explain why vitamin supplements are necessary in order to increase your fertility as well as why prenatal vitamins are necessary prior to and during pregnancy for you and your unborn child. Most women don't get the vitamins and minerals needed from the food they eat from day to day. We would have to eat a whole lot of fruits, vegetables, meats, and grains in order to get the balance of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to thrive and be our healthiest.

Women's vitamins are especially important when a woman is trying to conceive and during pregnancy. These are specifically called prenatal vitamins.

Prenatal vitamins supply a rich assortment of vitamins and minerals to help a woman conceive and bring forth a healthy baby. These vitamins and minerals are necessary to help keep our hormones balanced and our nervous system running smoothly as well as keeping all our organs functioning optimally.

Let me stress - We all need to take a multivitamin and multi mineral supplement to make up for what is lacking in the food we eat. Even the best diet in the world will not give you all the nutrients you need for your best chance at getting pregnant and bringing forth an optimally healthy child.

So what do you look for? What are the qualities of the best fertility vitamins and prenatal vitamin supplements?

Well, I'm no expert. But I can tell you what I took that helped me to be more fertile and energetic and have a trouble-free pregnancy. I looked into several prenatal vitamins before choosing what I believe to be the best multi vitamin supplement that's all natural and made from organically-grown plant compounds (see below). The other prenatal vitamins were synthetically made with artificial coloring.

I also ate lots of fruits and vegetables and drank a lot of purified water. (See my Preconception page for more on this.) Make sure your multivitamin has at least 400 mcg of folic acid (I took 800 mcg daily) in order to prevent neural tube defects in your unborn baby. This neural tube develops within the first month of life, so it's important to get enough folic acid before you get pregnant.

* Remember that even the best multi vitamin supplement won't replace eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, grains, meats, and drinking lots of purified water. Both a healthy diet and a great multi vitamin supplement are needed to increase your fertility and ensure that you have a healthy pregnancy.

Top 10 Very Early Pregnancy Signs

Some women don't have any symptoms at all. Some women have a few of these presented below. Some women may have others that are not listed. These pregnancy symptoms tend to be
the most prevalent, however.

1. Fatigue. Due to the increase in hormone levels, most women begin to feel extreme fatigue in early pregnancy.

2. Sore breasts and/or nipples. Many women feel that their breasts are fuller and more tender with their nipples being more sensitive during early pregnancy.

3. Cramping and/or bloating. This early pregnancy symptom tends to feel very much like your period is coming.

4. Light bleeding. This light spotting is caused by the fertilized egg embedding into the lining of the uterus. Many women feel that their period is beginning, but it is actually one of their first signs of pregnancy.

5. Nausea and/or vomiting. Normally, morning sickness won't occur until about a month after conception, and some escape this pregnancy symptom altogether.

6. Increased urination. This symptom of early pregnancy occurs due to the increase in blood and other body fluids, which is processed by the kidneys and ends up in the bladder. This increase in urination will most likely only worsen as your pregnancy progresses.

7. Missed period. This pregnancy symptom is the first sign to some women that they are pregnant, especially with menstrual periods that are pretty regular.

8. Increased sensitivity to odors. This early pregnancy symptom may be due to increased estrogen levels, but no one knows for sure.

9. Basal body temperature stays high. If you're charting your basal body temperature, one of the very early pregnancy signs is a higher-than-normal temperature for that time of the month due to increasing progesterone levels in early pregnancy.

10. Positive pregnancy test . Most pregnancy tests will not detect early pregnancy until your menstrual period is missed. Some tests are more highly sensitive, however, and can detect pregnancy as early as a few days after conception.

10 Possible Reasons Why You're Having Trouble Getting Pregnant And 10 Ways To Increase Your Chances

So you want to get pregnant? You may be wondering what's taking so long. "Why does it seem so difficult?" you may ask. "Why can't I seem to get pregnant?"

I had all these questions and more. I wanted to know how to get pregnant fast.

First, let's talk about the odds of getting pregnant in any given monthly cycle. One study cited a couple's chance of getting pregnant within the first month of trying at about 25%, while 60% will get pregnant within 6 months, 75% within 9 months, 80% within 1 year, and 90% of couples get pregnant within 18 months of trying.

Now let's talk about the factors that may be affecting your fertility and your partner's fertility. In other words, what's hindering your chances of getting pregnant fast?

Here are the 10 most likely causes of infertility issues followed by some conception tips to help increase your odds of getting pregnant faster.

1. Smoking. If you or your partner smoke cigarettes, this will greatly hinder your trying-to-conceive efforts. Women who smoke are 60% more likely than non-smokers to be infertile. Medical research indicates that egg depletion and sperm damage caused by smoking is the cause for this decrease in fertility. Smoking is very bad for your health anyway, so this should give you a worthwhile incentive to quit for your own health and those around you. An unborn baby is at a high risk for many complications if the mother is a smoker. Also, if your partner smokes around you, you are affected by the second-hand smoke, which is very harmful as well. Remember that with over 2,000 different chemicals in tobacco smoke, not one of them is nutritious or enriching for you or your baby.

2. Illicit Drug Use or Alcohol Use. This may seem like a "no brainer" for most of us, but some women and men need to be reminded that illicit drug use is a no-no for those trying to conceive. Marijuana use specifically suppresses hormone production, which can cause decreased sperm count and possible erectile dysfunction in men and irregular periods in women. Alcohol in moderation may not significantly affect fertility, but if you want to definitely increase your chances of getting pregnant sooner rather than later, it's best to avoid alcohol completely (both the woman and the man).

3. Caffeine Intake. Caffeine is believed to reduce fertility. It also is believed to be risky during pregnancy with an increased risk of miscarriage with more than very mild use. Caffeine's effect on fertility and pregnancy is controversial - some believe it to be harmful in even small quantities and others believe it is fine with moderate use (up to three cups of coffee per day). But why take a chance, especially if you want to conceive quickly and avoid a potential miscarriage? Caffeine is in chocolate, coffee, tea, and most sodas. Even decaffeinated coffee and tea (black and green) has a small amount of caffeine, so be aware of this when drinking. If you truly want to get pregnant more quickly, you should give up caffeine altogether for a better chance of increasing fertility. If it's too hard and you have a caffeine addiction, then wean down gradually in order to make it easier on yourself.

4. Poor Diet. What you eat or don't eat is crucial to your overall well-being and reproductive health. Getting pregnant is a complex process, one that requires many different body organs and glands to function properly to have proper hormonal balance and functioning. Most people don't get the recommended daily allowance of fruits and vegetables and water per day. This is very basic, but it's crucial to pay attention to in order to help increase your fertility and your chances of getting pregnant more quickly. Eat lots of green leafy vegetables (leaf lettuce, kale, collard greens, etc.), whole grains (oatmeal, whole grain breads, brown rice, etc.), raw nuts (almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts, cashews, etc.), and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Organic is best, and fresh is better than canned or processed. (Note that Brazil nuts are especially good for sperm health).

5. Lack of Exercise. If you're sedentary, get moving. It will help you feel better, lose weight if needed, and will improve your fertility and chance of getting pregnant. Walking, swimming, biking, or aerobics are great forms of exercise. Do something that you enjoy, and it will be easier to keep up. Exercise at least 3 times a week for 20-30 minutes at a time.

6. Obesity or Being Overweight. If your BMI is greater than 25, you are considered overweight and are prone to health risks. A BMI of 30 or more is considered obese. Avoid fad diets or skipping meals. It has been proven that starving yourself only makes things worse. Do eat, but eat smaller portions more often, and cut out the junk food. Start slowly if you need to,
but definitely start.

7. Stressful Lifestyle. If you have a stressful work environment, consider changing jobs. Stress will not only affect your fertility, it will affect your overall health and place you at greater risk for heart disease and many other health problems. Also, do what you can to relax often (at least once a day). Practice deep breathing to help relieve stress. What I do is inhale as deeply as I can with my mouth closed. Then I exhale slowly through my mouth. This is an instant stress reliever for me. Try it and see what it does for you! Another stress reliever can be a leisurely walk, especially if it's something you enjoy and is in a beautiful environment. Go with your mate and use it to catch up on events of the day or just to dream of your future together. A warm bath can also be a great stress reliever, just don't make it too warm, especially for the males, as it could affect sperm quality and quantity.

8. Advanced Age. Advanced age is widely considered to be age 35 and older. Women who are 35 years old and older do have somewhat of a disadvantage when trying to conceive. It is said that a female is born with the total amount of eggs she will have her entire life. Thus, at age 35 and beyond, her eggs are considerably "older" than they were in her 20's, making it more difficult to conceive. That said, those of us who are older need to be even more diligent to be optimally healthy in order to increase our changes of getting pregnant faster. Men can be affected by age as well, especially as libido tends to decrease with age. I have found maca to be a wonderful libido enhancer and also fertility promoter. It is said to improve the quality of a woman's eggs as well. I believe it helped me to get pregnant at 39 and carry my beautiful, perfectly health baby boy to full term.

9. Poor Intercourse Timing. In order to conceive, a couple needs to have intercourse near the woman's ovulation time - the closer the better. If a couple just has intercourse "whenever", their chances of getting pregnant are not as good. Especially for the older couples in their late 30's to 40's, timing is crucial to getting pregnant faster. To get the timing right, you need to determine your ovulation date.

I like to track my cycles by using a basal thermometer. This thermometer is different from the regular thermometer used to determine a fever. A basal thermometer is an ultra-sensitive thermometer that tracks your body's most minute temperature shift and helps you calculate ovulation. Another means I like for determining ovulation date is an ovulation predictor kit (OPK) . There are two kinds - the urine strips and also the fertility monitors. The strips are like a pregnancy test stick, only they measure LH (or luteinizing hormone) instead of HCG (the pregnancy hormone). The fertility monitors use saliva to determine your most fertile period by showing a ferning pattern when you're most likely to conceive.

10. Physical Issues. There are many physical issues that can hinder your chances of getting pregnant. Eating right, exercising, losing weight, and quitting bad habits can greatly help to heal many of these conditions. Sometimes medical intervention is necessary, though. These conditions can include irregular menstrual cycles, anovulation (lack of ovulation), PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), endometriosis, low sperm motility or mobility, low sperm count, or luteal phase defect, among others.

I suggest that you get some prenatal tests done for you and your partner. If you've been trying to get pregnant for six months or more, especially if you're 35 or older, see a reproductive endocrinologist. He or she will help you to decide which testing is best for you and your partner. Semen analysis will most likely be helpful to determine sperm health. And the woman's symptoms
will help to determine what tests are performed for her. Prenatal testing is very beneficial even if you want to get pregnant naturally. If you know what your condition is, you're more likely to be able to overcome it.

What Is Basal Body Temperature?

Basal Body Temperature And Ovulation

Whether you are trying to have a boy or a girl, just become pregnant, or perhaps looking at natural birth control methods, you have probably heard or saw a lot about basal body temperature and ovulation. What is basal body temperature? What is the difference between every day thermometers and basal body temperature thermometers? Should you know your basal body temperature? Are there basal body temperature pregnant results? Can the basal body temperature be trusted? There are several "mysterious" articles and ideas around what is basal body temperature. Let's just try to break it down into its easiest understanding of it.

What is basal body temperature?

Basal body temperature is the temperature of your body, considered the "core temperature". Normal basal body temperature is usually around 97 degrees fahrenheit, taken the first thing in the morning. Your basal body temperature may fluctuate a little one way or the other from 97 degrees. You will have to start a history, that is to say record or chart, your basal body temperature for several menstrual cycles to find your normal basal body temperature. You should have this data collected to understand your basal body temperature and ovulation cycles. Basal body temperature is also known as the temperature of the body while it is in its resting stage. The woman's body temperature will fluctuate throughout the activities of the day, and it is at its lowest (or while at rest) immediately after waking in the morning. Recording or charting this first morning temperature every day will give you a better understanding of your menstrual cycle and when your body is best situated to become pregnant, or best time to not become pregnant.

How do you record your basal body temperature?

This is not going to be hard at all, the hardest part will be consistency. You must strive for consistency to acquire the most accurate results. First you must acquire a basal body temperature thermometer, which is different from the everyday "do I have a fever?" thermometer. But don't panic because they are easily acquired. Basal body temperature thermometers can be purchased in almost any pharmacy, including internal pharmacies in the big store chains like Walmart and K-mart, and I am sure many others. They are about $15, some a little higher. They come in two different styles, either the old fashioned mercury glass type, or the new fangled digital type. Neither one is better than the other, it is a matter or preference, but the digital basal body temperature thermometers seem to be quicker and easier to read, as it shows an exact number versus you looking at mercury level to find out. But for measuring purposes, they are about equal. You should keep this and your recording material, either the chart itself or at least a notepad, on the nightstand next to your bed for immediate accessibility when you awake every day.

Remember we spoke about consistency, so if you have to set an alarm to get to work, school, or where-ever during the week, even if you do not plan on getting out of bed (like on the week ends), you should still keep the alarm on to get the normal basal body temperature at the same time every morning. Again the basal body temperature thermometer is not the same as the every day thermometer. The basal body temperature thermometer is marked off in tenths of a degree. And it is critical to record this temperature accurately to better understand your menstrual cycle.

Why are we tracking the normal basal body temperature?

Here is why you want to make sure you track your basal body temperature. Again a normal basal body temperature is around 97 degrees fahrenheit. Your cycle produces an egg, and the human egg is usually only able to be fertilized 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. Temperature increases from .4 to 1 degree and remains higher for a few days, ovulation has likely occurred. The normal (average) time of this is around the 17th day of your cycle. However women differ from body to body and this is not a hard and fast rule. Which is why we are tracking your basal body temperature for at least 2 or more cycles, preferably multiple. The more cycles recorded the easier it is to be more accurate to predict the body's cycles. You will start to see a pattern develop that will allow you to start predicting, along with the temperature spike, the ovulation period. The egg is released, also known as the ovulation, and for the next 24 or so hours, the temperature should spike from its normal basal body temperature, up to 1 degree. So, the first day of temperature spike is supposed to be the time to give you the best odds of becoming pregnant. And those odds slowly decline as the days go by, usually around 5 days, and your basal body temperature returns to its normal basal body temperature.

To avoid pregnancy using this method, you stop having sex several days, like 5, before your temperature spike, and several days after your temperature spike. This is by no means a fail safe method to be trusted as a contraceptive. Not any more than you absolutely becoming pregnant on the ovulation period. There are many factors in a woman's body that may either hinder or help her to become pregnant. These include but are not limited to cervical mucus, acidity, alkaline, spotting, fevers, length and temperature of fallopian tube, and several other factors.

Tracking, recording, and charting your basal body temperature can help you understand your cycle and predict the times of better odds of becoming pregnant. Although do not get discouraged if you are not successful the next cycle after you have tracked for a certain time frame. It can take up to 12 months, after that you may want to consult professionals.

Stress is also something that can interrupt a woman's body, and if you are trying desperately to become pregnant, it goes without saying you will probably experience a little stress if not a lot, followed by emotional times. Normal basal body temperature tracking is not a 100% method. But it is one of the easiest to start when trying to become pregnant. And you can even use more expensive ovulation kits to track your cycle. Whatever you decide to do, it is always recommended you begin with talking to your doctors and finding out the most information you can before starting on any program. I am not a doctor, I do not even play one on TV!

I hope that you have found this informative, and if nothing else encourages you to investigate the subject more. Good luck in your endeavors. You can learn more at venusormars.com.

Exercise While Pregnant - Beneficial For You And Your Unborn Baby

Sometimes it is difficult to exercise while pregnant. Yoga for pregnant women offers moms-to-be a great workout that is beneficial for you and your unborn baby. Here is a guide on safe, basic yoga exercises and stretches to practice during pregnancy.

Prenatal yoga provides both mental and physical benefits during pregnancy. For one, it is useful because it teaches you how to use breathing to relax your body and mind, factors which will obviously come in handy during childbirth. Learning how to master the poses involved in prenatal yoga will prepare you for labor and childbirth and it facilitates this by instructing your body to stay relaxed.

Still the benefits of yoga for pregnant women are not only confined to your physical stamina, as the entire purpose of yoga is to vitalize not solely the body, but the mind and the spirit as well. Not only that, but simply being in a positive and nurturing environment with others who are in the same situation as you can help to give you an emotional pick-me-up right when you require it most.

There are numerous yoga poses particularly that are created for exercise while pregnant, such as the Cobbler or Tailor pose. This is a sitting pose that helps to open up the pelvis. To do this pose, you sit yourself up straight against a wall with the soles of your feet touching one another, and then softly press your knees down and away from one another. Then try to stay in this pose for as long as you feel relaxed.

Another excellent prenatal yoga position is the pelvic tilt, which is a posture that helps to relieve back pain. Get down on your hands and knees with your arms shoulder-width apart and your knees hip-width apart. Attempt to keep your arms straight; then tighten in your abdominal muscles and tuck your buttocks under and round your back, breathing in while you stay in this pose.

Now, relax your back into its relaxed position, and breathe out, repeating at your own pace.

Finally, another good position is the squatting position, which helps to open up the pelvis and to strengthen the upper legs. As you start to grow during pregnancy there are a variety of support props that you can use to facilitate this position, such as yoga blocks or a pile of books.

You begin by standing facing the back of a chair with your feet spread slightly apart, with your toes pointed outward.Bring your tailbone towards the floor as though you were about to sit down on a chair, but rather than sitting you hold the position there. Take a deep breath in, and at the moment you exhale, push your legs up and rise to a standing position, and then repeat as you feel comfortable.

So if you are wondering how you will possibly exercise while pregnant, consider trying yoga for pregnant women. Not only will you feel great, you'll be accruing great benefits for you and your child. This natural exercise program will passify tension and improve your flexibility. Yoga poses are a fantastic way to increase your sense of health and well-being, and a practice that you can always manage to accommodate into a mother's busy schedule.

8 Steps for Planning a Baby Shower

Think you can't plan a baby shower? Think again! The tips below will help you plan a fun, fabulous and memorable baby shower that will be greatly appreciated by the mom-to-be and enjoyed by one and all.

Are you planning a baby shower? Good for you! A baby shower is the perfect way to shower the mom-to-be with love and support and help her celebrate one of the most exciting times in her life. But if you've never planned a baby shower, you may not be sure where to start. Don't worry - you're not alone. Lots of other women have been in the same boat you're in, wondering just where to start. The advice below is designed to guide you through the steps involved in planning a successful baby shower.

Select the Date and Time

The baby shower is usually held about six weeks before the baby's due date. However, some mothers are electing to have the party after the baby is born, especially if they choose not to find out the baby's sex beforehand. Just be sure to allow yourself plenty of time for planning. Showers can be held on either weekends or during the week - there really is no hard and fast rule. Just try to make the time and day convenient for everyone including any out-of-town guests. As for the time, consider the needs of people who must travel to attend. Also be sure to keep in mind the mother-to-be's schedule (naps, doctor appointments, etc.).

Choose the Location

When choosing a location, make sure it is easy to get to and will accommodate the needs of the party. Oftentimes, baby showers are held at the home of the hostess (that would probably be YOU!). Try to get a rough idea of how many people will be attending before finalizing any details.

Set a Budget

If you're like most of us, you'll need to stick within a budget for the baby shower. Be realistic about what you can afford to spend - the mother-to-be doesn't want you to go into debt. You should budget for invitations, favors, food and drinks, game supplies and your gift for the baby.

Create a Guest List

The best way to compile the guest list is by simply asking the mother-to-be who she would like to attend the shower. If the baby shower is a surprise, work closely with the father-to-be to create a guest list. The guest list usually includes friends and family, but a few close co-workers may also be invited. Get address, phone numbers, and email addresses. Also decide if it will be a "girl's only" shower or a "couples" shower.

Choose a Theme

Baby showers are supposed to be fun - and yes, even a little silly. There are hundreds of delightful and fun baby shower themes to choose from - the sky's the limit. And honestly, sometimes "Baby" is the only theme you need! No matter what theme you choose, just remember this will be the baby's first party. Have fun with it!

Select Invitations

Invitations can range from a phone call to a printed invitation, but generally, fun invitations are sent out. If you've selected a particular theme, you may want the invitations to tie in to it. Remember to include all necessary contact information and baby registry information on the invitations.

Plan the Menu

Unless you're hosting a couples baby shower or a very formal baby shower, you're probably fine with serving a cake, mints, nuts and some drinks such as tea or punch. However, if the shower will fall during a mealtime, your guests may expect you to serve more substantial food. In that case, you can serve anything from sandwiches to a potluck type meal.

Decide on Games

Into each baby shower, a few games must fall. Seriously, these baby shower games, although sometimes quite silly, can be lots of fun and are actually expected. Just take a look at our Baby Shower Games, or throw a few of your own ideas into the mix. And don't forget the favors!

Using the steps above will help ensure the baby shower you're planning goes smoothly, but above all, remember to have fun with it as you honor the mother-to-be and her impending arrival.

The Ultimate Maternity Jeans/Pants Fit Guide

We hope this information helps you to make an informed decision on which maternity jeans to buy for your style/shape.

A tip from me when choosing jeans - stay with your regular AUS size unless indicated on the product description, if you choose the bigger size you may find them too big in the bottom and thighs, and will be hitching them up all the time, as most maternity jeans sit underbelly. The jeans may feel a little snug at first but remember that the denim will give with each wear and wash.

If you ever need any help we are just a phone call away on 02 9983 0908 or please email admin@queenbee.com.au and we'll be happy to help!

5 Sanity Tips for New Mom

Becoming a stay at home mother is one of the greatest feelings known to womanhood! It is exciting to know that you are going to raise your own child hands on in the home and be able to enjoy them too! You are excited to change their diapers, wash them, coo to them, teach them, hold them and love them, exactly what you are suppose to feel for your children. But then something happens, you start to become weary and tired, then suddenly all of it can just seem to be too much! The overwhelming dread of being woke up in the middle of the night to tend to your hungry, unhappy child; you start to feel like a failure, as if you are not doing your “job” as a mother correctly. By now you have started to feel a bit unappreciated by everyone and it is magnified because of your sleep deprivation. You are not alone! This is the most common situational struggle that a new stay at home mother goes through. It feels like it will never end, but believe me it does!

Below is a list of 5 Tips that helped me as a stay at home mother and can help you too!

1.) Always remember the saying “This too shall pass”: I remember my mother telling me this and at the time I did not believe her but she was right, it did!

2.) Communicate to your loved ones how you are feeling even if it means complaining and seems depressing. You will soon learn they felt the same way when they were in a new mother and you will not feel alone!

3.) If someone asks how they can help, give them suggestions. Anyone who has taken the time to ask how they can help you truly wants to be of help to you! I was too much of a martyr, when people would ask me, I would respond with “I am fine” or “I don’t need anything”, but really felt the opposite and eventually shot myself in the foot when it came to receiving any help. When someone takes the time to ask you what they can do for you, let them know! Put a list together and take advantage of the assistance while you have it.

4.) Asking for help is a hard thing to do. It is easier when someone suggests some help, but if no one offers a hand, you need to ask. Asking for help is important and essential to do before you are already feeling overwhelmed. If you can utilize the assistance of others, you will be better off on the end.

5.) Don’t forget about yourself. You need some time to reflect alone and it is not selfish to do this once in a while. Learn to treat yourself here and there and you will a much happier sleep deprived mother!

All in all, motherhood is the greatest joy there is! If you can practice these 5 suggestions you will be on your way to becoming a satisfied stay at home mother who is filled with joy and laughter every single day!

Some questions and answers about baby gender selection:

If you are like most people, there are questions floating around in your brain about this subject. You might even have some religious or moral residual thoughts making you wonder if you should try to dictate the gender of your baby to begin with. Am I right?

I have found that the only way to make true decisions is to study and learn the subject of question so that you can make an educated decision on whether or not baby gender selection is right for you. So, let's learn a little more about the subject!

1) What is baby gender selection? - It is the process, either preconception (using natural methods like timing of female production and/or body PH balance to increase the odds for one gender or the other) or preimplantion (usually involves outside medical involvement to manipulate sperm count for the gender or the other to increase the odds) in which you pro actively attempt to create a preferred gender for a baby.

2) What is the difference between preconception and preimplantion? - Preconception is also referred to as "natural baby gender selection" and involves some work from the couple on timing and understanding the body's natural methods to produce a baby of a certain gender. On the other hand, preimplantion is more a medical procedure that, sans conception (without sex), uses methods and instruments to sort sperm, use artificial insemination, use methods of in vitro fertilization, or possibly medications to produce a baby of a certain gender.

3) Which is more effective? – Most couples who had used baby gender selection over the years have shown that the natural (preconception) method has a higher percentage of success rates for baby gender selection. I do not know of any conclusive studies proven one way or the other.

4) Is one safer than the other? - No studies have been either made or conclusive on the subject of safety as the only subject, as far as I am aware of. But, common sense dictates that doing something naturally (as the body normally functions) would appear to be safer than doing something that introduces a foreign substance (medicines, chemicals) or foreign sorting method to the body's natural function. It is only my opinion, but it just makes sense to me that if I can push a pressure point to rid myself of a head ache, that it would be better for me overall than using a chemical (aspirin or acetaminophen) to block neural pain transmissions without alleviating the actual pain. I would not view baby gender selection any different, it would seem to me the less foreign material introduced to the body, the better for the body, as well as less likely to affect the fertilization, makeup of the baby.

5) Is one more expensive? - Absolutely. With doctors, clinics, and medical procedures there are always costs, usually fairly high ones. Fees may start as low as $250, and go into the thousands of dollars for preimplantion methods. And most insurance will not cover any of the costs (it is considered "elective" and therefore not medically needed or supported). The natural preconception methods usually cost under $100 to get all the information, supplies, and other things you may need to succeed.

6) How long does it take? -You should get your information gathered for either method about 12 weeks before the first menstrual cycle you are thinking about conceiving your baby. Although most experts say the sooner the better, because it gives you the most time to get a thorough understanding of the method you chose.

7) Is it ethical? - Honestly, only YOU can answer this question for yourself. Most people will not take a stand either way unless they are zealots one way or the other. The real truth is that You have to make that decision. There are several arguments for either direction. Really, if one wanted to, they could provide arguments to sway somebody either way. But ultimately, again that decision is yours and yours alone. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (http://www.asrm.org/) (a group creating ethical guidelines for clinics specializing in fertilization) believes a person has the right to choose their baby's gender. While the Center for Genetics and Society, (an organization that works with genetic engineering technology) believes baby gender selection is ethically and socially unjustifiable.

It all comes down to you and your family's beliefs. What is right or wrong for you is a personal choice. And like religion itself, I believe you should only go with what is comfortable for you, or what you feel in your heart is right.

I hope that this helped you stir some questions up in your mind.
